Operation Remembrance
"Memory is the treasury and guardian of all things"  Cicero

Operation Remembrance is a non-profit volunteer organization run
by Army Spouses that provides memory boxes to the families of fallen
Soldiers.  Operation Remembrance was created in May 2005 after a
friend was KIA while serving overseas in Iraq.

As I searched for a memory box to hold letters from his Army family to
present to his wife and young child, I realized all the families of fallen
Soldiers deserved a special keepsake. The response I received from
fellow Army Spouses was phenomenal, and with their support
Operation Remembrance was born.

During his funeral a Chaplain said, “Our memories help fill the void
that is left by the loss of a loved one.” It is our hope that Operation
Remembrance can help families preserve their memories by providing
an easily accessible place to collect precious mementos and letters,
creating an heirloom that will be a treasured connection to their
Soldier’s life and legacy.

It is said that blood is thicker than water, but anyone who has ever
been a part of an Army family knows that camouflage comes close.
The Army Spouses at Operation Remembrance want to give this gift
to other Army families and let them know their Soldier’s life mattered,
and they will not be forgotten.

Currently Operation Remembrance provides memory boxes to the
spouse or parents (if the Soldier was single) of Soldiers killed while
serving overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi
Freedom. We also provide memory boxes to the families of those who
die tragically while on active duty. It is our hope that someday we
can provide memory boxes to all Veteran’s families, and instead of
representing a life cut short it will help memorialize the long life of a
dedicated Soldier.
